Weekly Update
Good Day All,
We've just completed our 2nd week of school and things are busy. Betsy has Student Council elections coming up this week and then all the elected officers (10) do an overnight retreat. Unfortunately, it's at our house on Friday. Games and movies all night. An adult has to be up if the kids are and we are the only 2 there so it will be a long night at our house.
The sun made an appearance here for the first time in a week. We got about an inch and a half of rain yesterday afternoon precisely during the 2 intramural soccer games. The teams that won were the ones who had the most people bring cleats. It was hard to tell who was on what team by the end but we had fun. My team came from behind in the last few minutes and scored a goal as time expired to win 6-5. We have a British kid, 9th grader, who scored 5 of our goals. 3 were from the kickoff where he just blasted the first kick from midfield. He is going to score a lot of goals this year for the boys team. They don't start until after basketball around thanksgiving. I had boy's bball tryouts this week and planned to keep 11 and ended up keeping 14. We lost a lot of talent and leadership last year so it will definitely be a rebuilding year. 2 kids came back from furlough and they look promising. We have a lot of speed but really lack shooting skill.
We got to see Alfred and Oliver today. They spent the summer up in their village in the NWest. Oliver just got in this morning after finishing up the harvest of beans, corn and potatoes. He said it was pretty wet and the yield was down.
The dog still growls at me. I am beginning to wonder if he is nearsighted or something. We also found out that the cat from last year that kept popping out kittens has again utilized her best and only talent and dropped 3 surprises for the family who came back this year. If she hasn't been fixed yet I know by talking to Steve that an appointment is surely imminent.
My World Geo class is going well. It's a great group and 5 of 10 are not American. I have a Cameroonian, a Korean, a Canadian, a Scot, an Indian and one kid who is half Portuguese. We finish Earth Structure this week and roll into weather and climate on Monday.
Other than that, we haven't done a lot since we have been so busy. We have our 2nd annual Anniversary on Monday. Not sure what we're doing yet. We are both still fighting colds and restaurants are very expensive so we might just stay in and have some people over. It's up to the Social Director I guess.
Thank you all for thinking of us and praying for our safe arrival. We are truly grateful.
Brian & Betsy
