Update 21Apr08

Greetings All,

Many things have kept us busy since the last update was sent. The civil unrest lasted only a few days but things are still tense. There have been some travel restrictions but that's about it.

Betsy and I are still seeking full-time teaching positions for next year and we have had one offer. It is not ideal for us as far as the teaching assignments so we are waiting to hear from 2 other schools that sound very promising. We were supposed to hear from one last Friday but did not. We can not afford to wait too long or our offer will expire.

The big school Carnival was Friday night. I was in charge of setting up and supervising a zipline that runs from the top of the hill down across the bball courts. Nobody crashed so I guess we can call it a success. Betsy was in charge of the money and they did quite well. We set up the climbing wall, a cake walk and the big money maker was the jail. You can pay to have somebody arrested and thrown in jail for a short time. The more you pay the longer the sentence. I was immune because I had to be up at the zipline. It's a good thing too because I was told I would have spent most of the night in jail. Some people try to run from the "cops" but eventually get caught. Frank Sanchez is about 6'5" and 280 so he had to be talked into going willingly. He was a good sport for the first few times. Most of the village families were in town for branch meetings so there were a lot of people. A couple girls arranged to have the kids from the orphanage we visit come over and see the carnival. They had never seen anything like it before and they had a lot of fun. They were so tired from all the games that they were all passed out by the time I got the van out to the main road.

Hopefully next time we write we will have good news about jobs and such. We are being patient knowing things will work out and we will go where He wants.

Take care and God Bless

Brian & Betsy
